Division III
Early Late Models
"The Third Generation of Stockcars"

As time passed from the late 40's and through the mid to late 50's, theBomber Division had grown, then started to slow a bit as the Early Modifieds started to grow, and the asphalt tracks were becoming the standard for most racing. By the early 60's, the old coupes and sedans from the 30's and 40's were starting to become a bit more scarce, the newer, more powerful, smooth-sided cars of the mid to later 50's were becoming available at reasonable prices. They were  larger, and had better suspension and handlng. They started to appear on the tracks across the country. The appearence of this "Third Generation" of Stockcar was changing the familar and much smaller image of what a race car had looked like for many years.  These cars had come to the short tracks, but this was also the period of time where the NASCAR concept of auto racing began to come togther. These cars became the icons of the mile long, high banked tracks where speeds were were reaching new heights. The mile long tracks with speeds that people had never imagined, found television. Racing had changed again, but was not through. It will most likely never stop changing.
