20th Annual
Maine Motorsports Expo
Civic Center, Augusta, Maine
Jan 4-6, 2008
The folks from "Wicked Good Vintage Racing Association" made their way to the Motor Sports show
to display some of their vintage racecars again this year. We had our booth right beside our good friends from the Maine Vintage Racing Association. They also had some fine looking vintage racecars for the public to see. Samantha Kennedy and George Brown, finish the final touches to the booth before the doors open up and the spectators arrive.
One of our favorite old friends, the ever popular Trunk Monkey, stopped by to
visit and grunt a little with us. He is a big motor sports fan (and really is pretty big) and is seen quite often when auto events are taking place. Grown ups sometimes hate to admit it, but they have as much fun when the Trunk Monkey shows up as as the kids do. Here the Trunk monkey is goofing it up and having some fun with Wicked Good members "Pappy" Woods, Colin Shields, and Ed Kennedy.
We had a lot of veteran drivers from back in the days when theses old coupes were seen several times a week all over the State of Maine. We also had some very special fans and friends who had never seen such a sight as these old racecars. They often appear to be getting a bigger thrill from these vintage racers then many of the adults. Here, a couple of young "drivers to be" are enjoying a little seat time behind the wheels of Barry Clukey's #11 1940 Plymouth and Travis John's #17 1937 Ford. It is sometimes very amazing at the really good questions that young folks ask about the vintage racecars. Nothing can compare with the smile of a young fan in the driver's seat!!
The coupes of W.G. members Keith Smalley(L) and Barry Clukey (R) Both of these cars go really well on the track
The recently restored #17 Ford coupe belonging to W.G. member Travis Johns. This was a very well known car for it's regular appearences on the old Exeter racetrack many years ago.
Parked just behind George's left shoulder is the beautifully restored championship racecar belonging to "Pappy" Woods, who actually had quite a lifetime racing Sprint Cars and the Midget classes.
"Pappy" himself with his great looking coupe.
Some of our friends and "next door neighbors" for the Fri, Sat, and Sunday Motor Sports show, who also manned the booths for the 3 day event.
Also on display in the Maine Vintage area is this beautiful restored coupe, - the old Russ Nutting racecar. This car is also seen on a regular basis at Maine auto events. Russ Nutting drove his old car at this years racing debut at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Rosey, Mark, Barry, and "Haggie" discussing how "the best way to do that is ----". Meanwhile a bystander stays in the background to wait for the final decision once the discussion is finished.
Once again, a great weekend, enjoyed by those who sponsored it,
those who took part and worked it, and those who came to see it!
