Racin' Preview
 Feb. 23 & 24, 2007
Portland
Vintage racecars were in good supply for those who came to this show to see the early stockcars that made the State of Maine known for it's love of motorsports.
The lineup was  a collection of cars from three clubs. These vintage racers all grouped together in a single row that made for quite a sight to behold. The signs, banners, and information tables of each club provided the fans with a good perspective of the interest that is growing in vintage racing. Several tables were running  old racing movies from the late 40's through into the early 70's. Clubs in the line included WGVRA, MVRCA, and NESMRA.

Wicked Good Vintage Racing Assoc. member Barry Clukey has a fantastic collection of vintage racecar photos that he displays for the fans. He is also a great historian of the early drivers, their cars, and the tracks that they raced on. It is always a treat for fans to chat with Barry  and often get answers to their questions like " I always wondered what ever happened to the old number so and so car that whats his name drove?"

The 1937 Pontiac Coupe of John & Lorraine Rice headed up the vintage lineup.

The #26 Class "B" Coupe owned by Carl Gain

The MVRCA booth was always manned to help fans
out with their questions as well.

The legendary #99 car with it's very much modified 1936 Plymouth body. This car was raced often and was in the winners circle many times with it's owner/driver, Phil Libby.

The honor of getting the "Best Vintage Stockcar" award
went to the #62 Homer Drew car belonging to Alan Gassette.

No, this is not a priceless painting from the Museum of Fine Automobile Art. This is a shot of the rear firewall inside the cockpit of Alans car. You can almost hear all those old bombers ripping up the track.

The # 24 Super modified owned by Rick Hannon

The # 01 car owned by George Brockman.

Bringing up the opposite end of the lineup for a historic group of racecars was the #2 "Blue Deuce" of racer, restorer, historian, and scale model craftsman, Steve Pellerin.
