"Wicked Good" Vintage Racing Assoc. returned to Speedway 95, and what an evening it was. There were about 18 vintage racecars on hand that evening, to hit the 1/3 mile asphalt oval. Many had traveled considerable distance to make the racing event. This was the largest "Wicked Good"  turn out yet for an evening of racing.

What a sight to behold. Brightly painted 1957 and 1958 Early Late Models, many of their older brothers from the 1930's and 1940's running as Bombers and Early Modifieds.  However, the vintage Chevys, Pontiacs, and Plymouths,  were also there in numbers to take the challenge for bragging rights.  Once again, sitting in the stands at another great Maine racetrack was like getting a ticket for some time travel. The sights, the sounds of tires, old engines, and the enthusiam of the crowd, would take you back many years to when the "Coupes were Kings", and the "Big Cars" were just starting to take their turns at ruling the ovals. They all ran together and gave everyone the magical peek into the past.

It has been overheard more then once at a vintage stockcar event, "Oh, they don't really race the cars. They pick a winner before hand and just drive around and let the designated winner get to the checkered flag first."
This is not true with "Wicked Good Racers !
Every car out there
has a shot at the checkered flag. The cars have come to race. They did not come to bump or bang each other on purpose, nor to try to put another car out of action in order to win. Every club member out there is a good friend of all the others, and there is a good chance they have helped work on each others racecar and given or swapped parts with each other. Nobody wants to see a car wrecked or a driver hurt. Sometimes things do happen. It is racing, but is intended to be of the utmost caution and respect for one another on the track. There are no big winning payoffs, championships, or special titles at stake.
Just fun with your friends and the cars from the old days of racing.

A pre-race display in which the crowd got to meet drivers and check out our "Wicked Good" race cars.

"Early Stocks", Early Modifieds", and "Early Late Models", having fun together, along with their drivers..........  Three cars tangled going into turn #1 during the feature, causing some damage.  However, toughest luck of the night seemed to single out Charlie Sheehan in his orange '58 Ford #60.  Charlie really keeps his foot in that Ford, and with Charlie's guidance the car really flies around an asphalt track.  Coming out of turn #3 the engine suddenly detonated, ending Charlie's night, and his opportunity to be the first "Early Late Model" across the line.

Lap times may vary due to specification differences in the three classes currently being run together, but everyone can find someone to race with, each and every time.  "Early Modifieds" tend to come across the line ahead of the other classes as one might expect, but there is still a winner for each class.  And from our perspective, every driver becomes a winner each and every time they are able to take a green with their vintage racer.  Don't forget to watch for the mini races taking place between each green and checkered.

Short videos of tonight's excitement will soon appear on our "Racin' Clips" page.

Monster Jam Monster Truck Show
also featuring the racecars of
"Wicked Good" Vintage Racing Assoc.
It came as a pleasent surprise and was definately not our our usual type of trip to the track. We recieved a telephone call from one of the gentlemen from the Monster Truck Assoc., inviting us to join them for an appearance at Speedway 95.   At first we were concerned they might be looking for some old iron to crush.   Fortunely, that was not the case.

5 vintage cars waiting to run

10 laps of constant lead changes

Sometimes tight !

Sometimes tighter !

and sometimes room to move.......

Everybody got to lead THIS race - pretty unusual, but definitely FUN !!!
