Kevin has acquired the old #12 1957 Ford, that was driven by Billy Patrick.
History: In 1970 Billy Patrick from Old Town, built a 1957 Chevy racecar. In 1970 and 1972, he raced as the #116, in the Charger class at Oxford and Unity. In 1972 he won the Feature with it.
In 1974, Billy built the 1957 Ford. It was built to race as a Late Model Stock. It became the #12 car. Magnum Ford and Old Town Applicators were his sponsors. Just as Billy finished building the car, he got a message from the tracks. The engine size limit and car years had been raised for his class. He was advised that he should drop down to the Hobby class in order to be competitive. He refused to do so and said he had built it as a Late Model Stock and was going to race it as one.
The car was raced every week at both Speedway 95 and Unity Raceway. The car took a hard hit in the side one night and needed some frame repair. It was patched up "close enough for now" and went back on the tracks. It handled even better then before the crash. On Aug 17th 1974, Billy was 4th in points at Speedway 95 and on Aug. 19th 1974, he was 3rd in points at Unity. Not bad for an outclassed banged up racecar. Pretty good driving too!
The old #12 is now in Kevins very capable hands and will be tearing up the Maine oval tracks again soon. Be on the watch for it!!
