History:
HERE IS THE STORY ABOUT MY VINTAGE RACE CAR. IT IS A
1939 CHEVY MODIFIED. THE ORIGINAL NUMBER WAS #86. IT HAS A 327
ENGINE, AND FRANKLIN REAR END. THE CAR WAS RACED AT ISLIP NEW YORK. THE CAR  WON THREE CHAMPIONS,1969,1970,AND 1973. THE DRIVERS NAME WAS AL HANSON. IN 1974 THE CAR WAS SOLD TO THE HIMES MUSEUM IN LONG ISLAND NEW YORK. AT SOME POINT IT MADE IT TO MAINE, I FOUND IT AT GOLDENROD GARAGE IN FREEPORT MAINE IN 2006, AND BEGAN RESTORING IT. WE FRESHENED THE MOTOR, REDID THE FRANKLIN REAR END,PUT ALL NEW FLOOR BOARDS, NEW
DASH, NEW BRAKES, AND NEW WHEEL CYLINDERS. I CHANGED THE NUMBER ON THE CAR FROM #86 TO THE FLYING ZERO BECAUSE IN THE 1960S I BOUGHT A 1937 PLYMOUTH BOMBER FLYING ZERO FROM PAUL TARDIFF AND RAN IT AT BEECH RIDGE SPEEDWAY IN SCARBORO.

Dick Madore and his historic Modified 1939 Chevy coupe. This great looking
ride has tons of history and Dick has some great vintage photos of it in action in the 60's.
Dick is another one of the "Wicked Good" vintage racing group that braved the stormy
weather and made the trip to The 17th Annual Open Wheel Celebration in Loudon, NH.

These old coupes used to make their homes on the rough and dusty dirt tracks of Maine
part of the time and squealed their tires in every turm of the tight 1/3 mile asphults ovals as they developed years ago. Loudon International speedway is a far cry from their roots, but they still look and sound mighty fine as they hit some very respectable speeds on the big track.

A winning coupe nearly 40 years ago and still screaming around the racetracks. The Flying Zero giving Dick lots of memories. Speaking of memories, check out the coupe's photos below from "Back in the day" as we hear so often now.

The Flying Zero back in the 60's & early 70's, when it ran at Islip New York as the "86" car, driven by Al Hanson, who took the checked flag on a regular basis with it.

Out in front and going for the win, long, long ago. Great photo.

The "86" crew- Driver- Al Hanson, his wife, the car owner, and the two men of the pit crew.
We'll get their names up here soon.
